Head of the EU delegation says it is in EU interest to have a stable Sudan partner to face common challenges
Khartoum, Sept 4, 2010 (SUNA)
The European Union has expressed its commitment to the stability and development of the Sudan, within the partnership of the two sides that has been there for many years.
The Head of the European Union Delegation to the Sudan, ambassador Carlo De Filippi, told a group of leading Sudanese journalists who responded to his invitation for the annual Iftar Ramadan, that there were many common challenges that face the Sudan and the European Union, citing as example climate change and migration, stressing that it was in the interest of the EU side to have a stable partner to face these challenges.
He added that the EU is also "committed" to" the stability and development of the Sudan".
The ambassador has stressed that the partnership between the Sudan and the EU requires dialogue, good faith, optimism and efforts from both the Sudan and Europe.
The event was organized at the headquarters of the EU delegation to the Sudan in Khartoum, and was attended by senior press and media leadership and correspondents of the international media.
The newly appointed Special Representative of the European Union to the Sudan, ambassador Rosalind Marsden who attended the event stressed her commitment to work closely with the Sudanese side to develop cooperation and bilateral relations.
Karti Lauds Japan Support to Stability, Peace and Development in Sudan

The Foreign Minister, Ali Ahmed Karti, has praised the efforts of Japan in boosting the stability, peace and development in Sudan as well as the initiative of Japan as the first country to fulfill the commitment that it has declared at Oslo conference for support to peace in Sudan.
He also lauded Japan's technical and financial aid to the recent general elections in the country as its declaration to expend financial support to the coming referendum in south Sudan.This came when he received in his office Thursday evening the visiting Japanese parliamentary delegation which is headed the chairperson of the Parliament's Committee for Combating Terrorism and International Cooperation and Support.
Meanwhile, Karti reiterated the government firm determination to implement in full all the clauses of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), stressing that there will not be return to war.
He called on the international community to help the two partners in Sudan implement the peace agreement and hold a free, fair and transparent referendum.
Prof. Khalil Affirms Commitment of his Commission to Perform its Mission Properly

Chairman of the Commission for the Referendum, Prof. Mohamed Ibrahim Khalil, has affirmed the commitment of the commission to perform properly the mission for which it has taken oath.
In an interview conducted with him jointly by SUNA and Omdurman Radio, Prof. Khalil announced the unanimous nomination of the commission members to Mohamed Osman Al-Nijoumi for the position of the Secretary General of the Commission of the Referendum
Prof. Khalil conducting of the referendum according to the timetable approved by the Presidency is possible.
He welcomed the support of the United Nations for holding the referendum, indicating that a delegation of the UN for upholding the referendum is due to arrive in mid current September.
He described the unanimous nomination of the former diplomat, lawyer and administrator Mohamed Osman Al-Nijoumi represents an advanced step, a real addition and surpassing to the last point of difference between the members. Prof. Khalil pointed out that the nomination of Al-Nijoumi as the commission's Secretary General will be submitted to the President of the Republic within the coming hours for approval and issuing a Republican Decree on his appointment.
He indicated that issuance of a Republican Decree on appointment of Al-Nijoumi as the commission's Secretary General will mark completion of all the structures of the commission, adding that another decision will be issues on formation of the assisting technical organs.

He stressed the coming referendum will be fair and honest and will be conducted with a high level of professionalism.
Prof. Khalil appealed to all the political forces, the parties, the national personalities and all circles to help the commission perform its mission and to provide an appropriate atmosphere for carrying out the referendum.
He denied his knowledge about reports on transportation of 1.5 million of southerners from the north to the south, adding that the law is clear and explaining to all aspects.
Al-Nijoumi Nominated as Secretary General of Referendum Commission

The Commission for the Referendum has unanimously nominated Mohamed Osman Al-Nijoumi, as Secretary General of the Commission.
Al-Nijoumi was a former diplomat In statement to SUNA, the Rapporteur of the Commission for the Referendum, Gen. Tariq Osman Al-Tahir said that the Chairman of the Commission, Prof Mohamed Ibrahim Khalil, will soon submit the nomination to the President of tthe Republic for approval.
